  Guidelines for Glove Usage and Hand Care in General Dental Practice
   
  1. Gloves should be worn for all procedures.

2. Use good quality, powder free gloves.

3. Before donning gloves, hands should be washed with a disinfectant soap. When changing gloves between patients, hands should be washed, or disinfected by thoroughly rubbing with an alcohol-based disinfectant hand rub if uncontaminated (i.e. if the gloves didn’t perforate or tear).

4. Gloves should be changed between patients.

5. Use hand cream after every clinical session.

6. Jewelry, watches and rings should not be worn during a clinical session.

7. Cuts and abrasions should be covered with a waterproof plaster.
